
Sri Lankan envoy says talks underway to further reduce U.S. tariffs

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United States, Mahinda Samarasinghe said that diplomatic discussions are ongoing to further reduce U.S. tariffs on Sri Lankan exports.
The Ambassador made these remarks during a visit to the Chief Adhikarana Sanghanayaka of North America and Chief Incumbent of the Maryland International Buddhist Temple, Most Venerable Katugastota Uparathana Nayaka Thera, where he also sought the monk’s blessings.
During the meeting, Mr. Samarasinghe briefed the Nayaka Thera on the current status of tariff concessions and highlighted the steps taken under the guidance of the Sri Lankan government to strengthen economic ties with the U.S.
He said that continued diplomatic engagement would contribute positively to Sri Lanka’s economy by easing export costs.The Nayaka Thera commended the Ambassador’s diplomatic efforts and the mission’s ongoing work in promoting Sri Lanka’s interests abroad.
