Sri Lankans to get seasonal jobs in South Korea

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) says that many seasonal job opportunities in South Korea are now available for Sri Lankans following an agreement between the two governments.

According to the SLBFE, the South Korean government has agreed to offer high-paying and quality jobs to Sri Lankan workers under a seasonal employment program.

Successful discussions were held with the Bosong Local Government in South Korea to provide jobs under the E-8 visa category. Cabinet approval has been granted to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this purpose.

The proposal was submitted by Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath. Under the new MoU, Sri Lankan workers will be able to work in agricultural villages in Bosong Province for up to eight months.

Cabinet papers were presented on February 19 and July 1, 2025, to begin this pilot project and hold talks with interested local governments in Korea. These were approved.
