
Sri Lanka’s BOI Reports USD 827 m FDI Inflow, Doubts Loom

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) has announced foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows of USD 827 million from January to September 2025, a claimed 138 % jump year-on-year. Much of the increase is attributed to foreign commercial loans and intra-company borrowings, alongside equity flows from major projects including CWIT, CEAT OHT Lanka and Michelin Lanka. Yet, a recent United States Department of State investment climate report for Sri Lanka warns that most foreign investments remain modest (USD 3-5 million) and cites regulatory unpredictability and bureaucratic hurdles as major deterrents.
