A SriLankan Airlines flight en route from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to Singapore made an emergency landing at Medan Kuala Namu International Airport (KNO) in Indonesia last evening, following a technical malfunction mid-flight.
The aircraft, operating as flight UL 306, was inspected by Indonesian aviation technicians, who determined that repairs would require additional time. In response, a technical team from Sri Lanka was dispatched from Jakarta early this morning and arrived in Medan to assess and carry out the necessary repairs.
Meanwhile, SriLankan Airlines arranged a separate relief flight, scheduled to depart at 1:45 p.m. local time today, to transport the stranded passengers to their intended destination.
There were 93 passengers and 8 crew members on board at the time of the emergency landing. Affected passengers have since expressed frustration over prolonged delays, limited facilities, and a lack of timely communication at the airport while awaiting further arrangements.
SriLankan Airlines stated that it is working closely with local authorities to resolve the situation and ensure the safe travel of all passengers.
