The World Games 2025: Chengdu ready

Chengdu, China, will host the 12th edition of The World Games (TWG 2025) from August 7th to 17th, 2025. This marks only the third time the multi-sport event will be held in Asia.

The World Games provide a major international multi-sport event platform for sports and disciplines that are not part of the Olympic or Paralympic Games program

The Games will feature a comprehensive program of 34 sports, 60 disciplines, and 256 medal events. Chengdu aims to deliver “a wonderful Games featuring international standards, Chinese style and Chengdu characteristics”.

For the first time, TWG 2025 will implement the International World Games Association (IWGA) strategy, ‘Growth Beyond Excellence’, adopted in November 2020. This strategy increases the maximum number of participants, including athletes and technical officials, from 4,200 to 5,000.

Chengdu, a city of 20 million known for its Giant Panda Breeding Research Base and dubbed China’s ‘happiest city’, is well-prepared, possessing a “more than sufficient number of high-class venues” and requiring no new construction. The city also has experience, having organized the World Police and Fire Games in 2019 and the FISU World University Games in 2023.
