UDA Restarts Stalled Projects, Eyes Nationwide Urban Development Boost

The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has resumed several stalled projects and plans to launch new initiatives across Sri Lanka in the coming months, UDA Director General Mahinda Withanaarachchi said.

The UDA is currently advancing a mega-scale middle-income housing project to improve housing access. It is also working on 20 subprojects under the Clean Sri Lanka programme to enhance tourist facilities.

A Rs. 500 million ‘City Branding’ initiative has begun, with Rs. 300 million allocated to Kataragama. Future expansions are planned in Kandy, Colombo, Anuradhapura, and Colombo Fort.

Discussions are ongoing for a multi-modal hub in Colombo Fort, with a satellite hub proposed for Kandy. Feasibility reviews have also been completed for previously suspended projects such as car parks and admin complexes.Withanaarachchi confirmed that the UDA received a Rs. 750 million budget in March and allocated funds to priority projects in April.
