Five leading liquor manufacturers to face licence cancellation by Nov 30th
Five leading liquor manufacturers, including W. M. Mendis and Co. limited, face the imminent threat of losing their liquor production licenses if they fail to settle an outstanding tax debt totaling Rs. 8.5 billion by November 30th.
The Department of Excise, under direction from the Treasury, issued a fresh warning earlier this month to these large-scale distilleries, urging them to clear their tax arrears by the end of November.
The companies in question include Synergy Distilleries (Kalutara), Wayamba Distilleries (Kurunegala), Finland Distilleries, Hingurana Distilleries (Pvt) Ltd, and W. M. Mendis and Co. Limited. These firms have been under scrutiny for evading tax payments over the past two years.
Randenigala Distilleries Lanka (Pvt) Ltd has already cleared its dues to the Excise Department. However, the remaining five companies have been warned again to pay off their outstanding amounts.
