Sri Lanka and India have discussed resuming a second passenger ferry service between the island and the sub-continent during President Anura Dissanayake’s state visit.
They agreed that officials should work towards the early recommencement of the passenger ferry service between Rameshwaram and Talaimannar,” a statement issued after Dissanayake met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi read.
The ferry service between Nagappatinam in India and Kankesanthurai (KKS) near Jaffna in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka commenced on October 14, 2023.
India has agreed to fund the renovation of Kankesanthurai port in the north of the island through grant assistance. Both leaders stressed the need for building further connectivity.
