Visitors to be allowed in Sigiriya during moon-lit nights

In a bid to boost revenue from tourism, the Tourism Ministry has decided to allow visitors at historic rock fortress Sigiriya at moon-lit nights.

The Ministry will allow people to visit it for five days a month- full moon day, two days prior to the full moon day and two days after.

Currently, visitors are allowed during day time between 6.00 am and 6.00pm. The programme is called ‘Sigiriya in Moon’.

Additionally, Plans are underway to improve the Sigiriya Museum, Need to Organize Instructions and Notice Boards at Sigiriya in a Thematic and Visual Manner, and restore the ancient water fountains with support from the Department of Archaeology.
